A young Tawny Owl in flight. The Tawny Owl is a bird that hunts a variety of animal species, mainly small rodents. Tawny Owls hunt by silently flying down from a branch to grab their prey, which they usually swallow whole. In urban areas, the diet also consists of small birds. Tawny Owls are common in forests, parks and gardens. Tawny Owls hunt almost exclusively at dusk and at night. During the day, the birds hide.
