A typical weather phenomenon in the north of Tenerife - the Orotava cloud. The Orotava valley in the north of Tenerife is sealed off from the trade winds from the north-east, so that in this region prevails its own microclimate, unless the general weather conditions have a disturbing effect. The dry air mass at higher altitudes here prevents the deeper humid air mass rising higher than about 800 - 1200 m. In this area, the so-called dew point, condenses the water vapor contained in the air and there are clouds. Due to this weather, the north of the island is much greener than the south, as it rains more frequently and the clouds dampen the sun and thus the high heat, which evaporates less moisture. The clouds can spread far over the sea, forming several times a day, retreating and occasionally raining off.
