The sun is going down in early spring, casting beautiful light over an old olive tree, one of several in an olive grove in Umbria, Italy. Years of pruning and weather have created a worn trunk and ornate branches that spread out. The olive tree owns its space, large and impressive and not to be missed. To the left of the tree, the back legs and tail of a small cat can be seen disappearing into the grass and wild flowers surrounding the olive tree. The cat is out on the hunt among the shadows.
This is actually photo art based on a photograph I took down in the olive grove behind my house. The cat is one of my own that came with us when we took the dogs (and my camera) for a walk. I thought this tree was just so full of character and it is quite awe inspiring to think that this tree has been here for a very long time - longer than I have!
