The Damrak in Amsterdam Breitner, George Hendrik 1903 Since 1889, Amsterdam's Central Station blocked the open connection between the Damrak and the IJ. Instead of an open water, the Damrak became an inland harbour. Breitner painted the houses on Warmoesstraat and the Oudekerk tower here. He used a photograph that also showed the Koopmansbeurs under construction, but the painting omits this building. Rijksmuseum Rights: CC0
