There is a legend that tells about the emergence of the Dom of Aachen. When the Dom was built, the money was up at a given moment. Satan wanted to help, but he wanted the first soul that entered the church. He expected, of course, that the bishop would be the first to enter the church, but the people were not completely crazy and sent a wolf forward.
When Satan noticed the deception, he became furious. Crying and running he came out of the church. He slammed the door so hard that he lost his thumb. The thumb can still be felt today in a hole of the ornament of the right lion on the bronze front doors.
