A Black and White photograph in 2:1 format of the first light of the day in the Dolomites, as seen from the Giaupas (Passo Giau) at an altitude of 2,200 metres overlooking the Marmolada, a glacier-covered mountain in northeastern Italy on the border between Trentino-South Tyrol and Veneto (province of Belluno).
The Marmolada has several peaks over 3,000 metres, including the Punta Penia (3,342 m), Punta Rocca (3,309 m), Punta Ombretta (3,230 m), Gran Vernel (3,205 m), Monte Serauta (3,069 m), Pizzo Serauta (3,035 m) and the Sasso di Valfredda (3,009 m).
These peaks are the highest peaks in the Dolomites, which is why the Marmolada is also called the Queen of the Dolomites.
