The forests of Tilburg are home to a special guest: the Siberian ground squirrel. This species is found nowhere else in the Netherlands and once ended up here by accident after the Tilburgs Natuur Dierenpark closed in 1973. Since then, the little survivors have adapted to their new home. This photo, which I took in the Wandelbos, captures their playful and curious nature.
In the background, you can see beautifully how the sunlight shines through the leaves and forms a beautiful fairy-like bokeh.
This emphasises the fairytale atmosphere I always feel when I walk here in the forest.
Will this curious little one be hanging on your wall soon?
