Ferry the Sier sails from Ameland to Holwerd. The channel runs through the mudflats and clouds are reflected in the water.
The ferry was made at Scheepswerf Bijlsma and is named after a village on Ameland that disappeared into the sea. Sier was a fishing village at the extreme western tip of the island, west of Hollum, which disappeared into the waves around 1730.

My name is Natasja Claessens, I was born in Utrecht and live in NIeuwegein. All my life I grew up between the dogs and the horses so I have a great attraction to these animals. Since I was a 6-year-old girl I was drawing all day long and taking pictures of everything to make my own teenage magazine. In Utrecht I studied at the School for Graphic Arts with photography as an extra subject. After my studies I worked for publishers and advertising agencies, until I decided to work independently as Studio Claes in 1995. Over the years my work as a designer has expanded more and more to include photography. The one often cannot exist without the other.
