The Spijkenisserbrug is a lift bridge, one of three major lift bridges in the Rotterdam region, and consists of four spans. The bridge has 3 lanes, of which the middle one is used as a change lane. The bridge is a prominent landmark in the region. The bridge has a total span of approximately 415 meters, with two main spans of 100 meters. The bridge is 19.4 meters wide and has a clearance of 87.5 meters. There are facilities for cyclists and pedestrians on both sides.
The bridge opens regularly to allow large ships to pass through on their way to the Port of Rotterdam or the Europoort.
