Wadi Rum is a valley with cliffs of sandstone and granite in southwestern Jordan. With about 720 square kilometers it is the largest wadi in Jordan. In 2011 Wadi Rum was placed on the world heritage list by UNESCO. The valley has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The earliest inhabitants left petroglyphs behind. The Nabataeans left a lot here, in the form of graffiti and a temple. There are some Bedouin tribes living in the area. Their main source of income is tourism.
