In the snowy mountains of Yudanaka in Japan lives the Japanese macaque, better known as the snow monkey. This particular primate species is famous for its remarkable behaviour: in the harsh winter months, it seeks warmth in natural hot springs surrounded by steam and snow. The thick, greyish fur protects the animals from the cold, while their striking red faces contrast with the white winter landscape.
This close-up shows the intensity and softness of the snow monkey in one look. The golden eyes reflect intelligence and calm, but also a certain melancholy reminiscent of human emotions. Every wrinkle, hair and nuance of colour tells a story of adaptation and survival in extreme conditions.
The snow monkey is not only a symbol of Japanese nature, but also of harmony between animal and environment. In the calm silence of the mountains, they live in small social groups, where care, warmth and cohesion are central.
This photo captures more than an animal: it is a moment of connection between man and nature - a glimpse into the soul of a creature silently braving winter.
