The building is a waiting room for the bags carriers who lived in the neighborhood and would not hear the bell. For the distribution of the work was "smacked" the men dropped dice through a funnel and who threw the highest eyes, was available work. Despite increasing industrialization and mechanization in the nineteenth century, the bags carriers were vital for transport. Schiedam Zakkendrager Guild is the only guild in Europe that still exist.
