I photographed these cows in Rwanda. They were swimming from one island to another in Lake Kivu.
I think the colours in this photo are special. The blue-green water contrasts nicely with the orange cow on the left. The contrasting left side of the photo is balanced by mother and calf on the right side. They are the subject of this photo.
At the top - in the background - we see impressive horns.
Note also how the mother cow is looking exactly to the right (from her perspective).
The photo also has something dynamic about it. The animals have to strain to keep head above water, and because of their movements, the water is quite choppy.
It is a remarkable photo, taken with a fullframe camera and a prime telephoto lens (Nikon Z6 + 400mm f4.5).
