The famous Tower Bridge, the River Thames and Canary Wharf in London as seen from The Shard. Canary Wharf is a large developing financial centre in the Tower Hamlets district of the UK capital London. The area is home to three of the UK's tallest buildings: One Canada Square (235 m), HSBC Tower and Citigroup Centre (both 200 m). Canary Wharf is located in the Docklands, London's former port, in the east of the city. After a long period of decline, work began on a new business centre in the area in 1988. Canary Wharf was identified in the 2015 London Plan as one of the three major centres in the Greater London conurbation that were expected to become metropolitan centres in the following decades. Tower Bridge is a bridge over the River Thames in London, completed in 1894. The bridge is a tourist attraction. It is located next to the Tower of London, from which it also takes its name. The section between the two towers is a bascule bridge that can be opened for shipping. Two suspension bridges connect the central section to the banks. Two footbridges, 44 metres above the water, connect the towers and provide a counterforce to the suspension bridges.
