A tribute to Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (1852 -1926) he was a Catalan architect. He designed around 1900 striking buildings and objects, especially in Barcelona, of which the Sagrada Família is the most famous. He is considered a founder of organic architecture. His work belongs to the art nouveau/jugendstil movement. At the beginning of the 20th century Gaudí created the Park Güell. It is a vast city park in Barcelona with a surface of 15 ha. A colourful bank (a giant snake) meanders through the park. Another striking feature is the double staircase with Salamander - known as "El Drac" (The Dragon). Both the bench and the Salamander consist of countless mosaic pieces. The park is, together with other works of Gaudí since 1984 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Because Gaudi put almost nothing on paper about his theories and principles, he was followed relatively little after his death.
