A tribute to Gerhard Richter (1932) he is a German painter. He is known for his abstract and realistic paintings, his photography and glass work. His work served as the basis for the movement for new European painting. Richter worked in different styles side by side from the 1960s onwards. In addition to realistically painted photographs in black and white shades, he also painted color swatches in 1964. His work of art "4900 Farben" consists of 196 square panels of 25 coloured squares each. The work of art can always be exhibited in different ways, because it consists of 196 parts. For Cologne Cathedral, Richter designed a 113-square-meter window in 2006. In 2015, the 1986 work Abstraktes Bild was auctioned for 41 million euros. That makes Richter the most expensive living European artist.
