Jeroen de Jongh Profile picture The tulip is a genus of monoecious plants of the Lily family (Liliaceae). Tulips were introduced to the western world by the Viennese ambassador for Turkey, Ogier Gisleen van Busbeke, who wrote about the flowers he had seen in Turkish Edirne in 1551. Later he sent some of its seeds to Austria.

The arrival of a cargo of tulip bulbs in 1562 in Antwerp marked the beginning of European tulip cultivation. The first documented specimens were planted by the Fleming Carolus Clusius in the Hortus botanicus Leiden, which he led from 1593 onwards. The forest tulip (Tulipa sylvestris) is the only species found in the wild in the Netherlands and has been established since the 19th century. Most of the cultivated forms of the tulip are derived from Tulipa gesneriana.

Welcome to my shop. I, an Amsterdam born and raised guy with an international mindset (hence the introduction in English), had the choice between offering you a nice catchphrase, or nice photos. I chose the latter. So enjoy, and I hope you will find something from my humble shop that you would love to have on one of your walls.
