The Voordelta is the area off the coast of Zeeland and the islands of South Holland. It is the whole of the shallow sea, the tidal sandbanks, the mud flats and the beaches. It's over 90,000 acres. The Voordelta is actually an enormous river delta: the Meuse, the Rhine and the Scheldt branch off here before they reach the North Sea. It's a rich ecosystem with huge numbers of animals. Among other things, there are porpoises and grey and common seals. In the background was once the famous bird island De Beer, but that had to make way for the arrival of the Maasvlakte.
