About ‘Wall houses in historic Amersfoort 10 in the 20th century’ by Watze D. de Haan

Historic Amersfoort has a unique centre, one of the features of which is the Muurhuizen. A walk through the Muurhuizen gives you a sense of the past coming back to life. The photo shows an example of this. This is an edit of my own photo to capture this atmosphere using AI, giving you the feeling that you have gone back a century in time.
This is a small part of the Muurhuizen, and every part is different. The street lamp is also a characteristic feature of the centre, where you can see a man coming by to light the lamps. Nowadays, the new LED lighting gives this area a soft atmosphere.

Historic Amersfoort is a fortified town with the famous city and water gate, the Koppelpoort. From the Koppelpoort, you can quickly reach the centre. There, you can wander around the many squares surrounded by the Muurhuizen.

The name Muurhuizen comes from the original fortification wall around the centre, which was demolished and the stones used to build houses. Historic Amersfoort, a museum covering one square kilometre and well worth a visit.
