Watercolour painting of the Koepoort in Middelburg, Zeeland. The Koepoort dates from 1739. Before the Koepoort, there were several cow gates that served as defences. The new Koepoort was mainly an ornamental gate. It is the only gate left because the old gates that no longer had a defensive function were demolished. in 1992, it was decided to restore the gate because it was damaged and overgrown. Today, the gate houses 2 B&B flats.
