In the Weerribben, there are lots of these mills. This makes sense because The Weerribben-Wieden is the largest lake marsh area in Western Europe. So the water has to be pumped around through the area of almost 11,000 hectares.
I always feel at home when I drive through the area. You see different landscapes from reed beds to meadows and from water to woodlands. There is always something to see here. This photo was taken in winter. Then it is time to mow the reeds. Then the windmills are beautifully exposed.
