This abstract photographic work, titled "Weathered Door," reflects my fascination with beauty in decay. When I discovered this old, blue wooden door with its rusty handle and weathered paint, I was inspired by the stories such objects can tell. The textures and colours, ranging from deep blue to soothing white, evoke a sense of nostalgia and melancholy.
My inspiration for this work came from my discovery of wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic that celebrates the beauty of imperfection and impermanence. "I wanted to show the viewer that even the most mundane and forgotten objects have a story to tell,"I often tell.
The mood I wanted to set with this work is one of contemplation and appreciation for the silent witnesses of the passage of time. This work evokes similar emotions to the art of Aaron Siskind and Minor White, known for their ability to capture the subtle beauty of textures and aged surfaces.
What makes "Weathered Door" so special is the way it invites the viewer to dwell on the beauty of the everyday and the passage of time. It is a work of art that is not only visually appealing, but also has a deeper meaning. This piece would be a wonderful addition to any wall, where it can be a topic of conversation and bring a sense of calm and reflection.
