This maritime landscape photograph was taken during my Easter trip to the wonderful island of Sicily in 2012.
The beach of Tindari is famous for its crescent-shaped sandbank that stretches out at the foot of a cliff and includes small lagoon lakes. The beach, known as Marinello Olivieri, is located between Milazzo and Capo d'Orlando and stretches for 2 kilometres within the Marinello Lagoon Lakes Nature Reserve. This beautiful, unspoilt natural oasis is surrounded by the greenery of the Mediterranean scrub and lapped by a clear and crystalline sea: on one side the sea is shallower and protected by the sandbank, while on the side facing the sea it is deeper.
To reach the beach, you can park in the designated area, but you also have to walk into the nature reserve, exposed to the sun. You can also walk from the nearest beach or get there by boat for about 5 euros.
The beach is not very busy even in summer and is therefore the ideal place for anyone looking for peace and quiet and to enjoy the beauty of an unspoilt and natural sea.
The legend of the Black Madonna of Tindari
According to legend, the beach was miraculously created after a little girl fell from the terrace of the sanctuary. The little girl is said to have been found unharmed on the beach. The girl's mother, impressed by the miracle, once again believed in the Madonna, whom she had previously doubted because of her dark skin.

"The photographic image process represents my personal work and creation area. This means dealing with image worlds, politics, human needs and sensitivities. The camera expands my scope to meet that other reality. Photography makes me happy, creates joy, closes boundaries, opens new doors, widens horizons. The camera teaches me to see, to sharpen the view, to capture moments, to perceive fleeting moments that are not visible to others. I am a creative person, a picture-maker, who draws on herself, does not copy a lot and develops her own imagery. So I move between the poles, reach different fixed points, look behind the scenes. Out of the thousandfold existing I manage to bring out something unique, unique moments of the picture."
