Wide panorama of the long hidden city of Machu Picchu, Peru. The town of Machu Picchu is located between steep mountains, at an altitude of about 2400 meters, in the region of the town of Cuzco.
More pictures of Machu Picchu in my album 'Machu Picchu'.
The Incas reached the city via a steep path. The Incatrail. The hike lasted several days and the city was therefore difficult to reach. Nowadays it is also possible to reach the city by train and bus.
Machu Picchu is enclosed between two steep peaks: the Machu Picchu (literally "old mountain" in Quechua) and the Huayna Picchu ("young mountain" in Quechua). The strong-flowing Urubamba runs through the rock valley at an altitude of 1750 metres.
In the city there is a residential zone with a large square, a military zone and a religious zone in the middle. Between the religious buildings were also the living quarters of the court. In the religious zone there are temples for the sun god and the moon goddess. There is also a sundial on the highest point of the city.
I like to take pictures of nature and landscapes. Travelling is my passion. I also like to occasionally apply in photoshop effects, or create new designs, thus creating digital art. Also art and culture in other countries have my interest. I created many albums in my shop: panoramas, landscapes, animals, people, flowers, various countries, buddhas and more. Besides photography I am involved in sculpting and painting. My other work can be seen on https://www.rietjebulthuis.nl
