The sky hangs heavy over the rugged peaks of the Allgäu Alps, dark grey rain clouds drift lazily over the majestic mountain landscape. A wild panorama stretches out before me - from the mighty Fellhorn at 2038 metres, which towers watchfully over the Warmatsgundtal valley, to the jagged silhouettes of the surrounding peaks. To the left rises the Gundsberg at 1582 metres, a gentler giant compared to its steeper neighbours. Further to the right, the peaks line up like silent sentinels: the Schartenkopf at 1812 metres, the Griesgundkopf at 2164 metres and finally the Alpgundkopf, which at 2177 metres is closest to the sky, closely followed by the Roßgundkopf at 2139 metres.
Behind this impressive chain lie the Stillachtal and Rappenalptal valleys, deep valleys that have carved themselves into the landscape like narrow furrows, while the green of the meadows in the distance fades under the gloomy clouds. The air is cool and filled with the silence of the mountains, disturbed only by the occasional whistling of the wind through the peaks. Nature shows its raw, untamed side here, a constant reminder of the power and majesty of the Alps - a place that opens the heart and calms the soul.
