Wind turbine in the rain by Wim van der Geest

Wim van der Geest Profile picture I made this photo of the wind turbine early in the evening a few days before Christmas. Together with my colleagues I visited the turbine. We were there not for no reason, no, we designed and build this turbine. The visit was special for another reason because it was the first time it produced power to the grid. I wanted to make a photo of my colleagues at the base of the turbine. As it was almost dark, I had to use the flash. I did not bring my off camera flash, so I had to use the build-in flash. To test the range, I made a trial photo. I looked at the screen and I saw spots on the screen. I thought it was rain on the lens, so I cleaned the lens and I made another photo and the result was the same. Then I realised that the flash had lightened the drops of rain which came visible as licht rounds. An unexpected but special effect.
Some background information on the turbine. This turbine has a power rate of just over 6MegaWatt and has a 2-bladed rotor. The main shaft is at about 105 meter above the ground level. This turbine hasn't have a tubular tower, but a 3 legged truss tower. The turbine stands in Eemshaven in Groningen, the Netherlands.
