"In the course of professionalization, photography has also become a question of choice: portraits, landscapes, abstract compositions, black and white or color: it is a matter of sharpening one's contour, of becoming similar to oneself for the sake of recognizability. At the same time, this choice is also a sacrifice: those who clearly define themselves delimit themselves, exclude things, accept the loss of a part of the world.it is a great risk and requires some courage and resilience to refuse this self-restraint, as Holger Debek does. He has deliberately not limited himself in his choice of means, has not decided on a particular subject, and has thus retained a childlike enthusiasm for the phenomena of the world. Looking at his photographs is like taking in everything on a walk and considering it equally important: Animals, houses, posters, clouds, faces. For him there is no difference between the seriousness of a black and white portrait and the pleasure of a colourful fantasy world created with Photoshop. He thus works against the loss of the world and becomes a true world collector. "
