Kristof Ven Profile picture This is the chapel of a large building.
The site was dedicated as a hospital in the 12th century and reused in the second half of the 19th century which then served as a house for girls' education.
At the request of the mayor of the city, this educational community moved there in 1866.
It was then used as a military hospital during the war of 1870, but it was looted by Prussian troops. The monastery was burned down on the night of May 20, 1901, and the nuns had to leave because of the anticlerical laws of the Third Republic. The monastery was bought by the city in 1907 and reopened in 1911 to be used as a general hospital. As for the nuns, they came back in 1954, but on a different site. The furniture of the disused chapel (goldsmith's shop, chandeliers, small furniture) was sold in the 1990s and in 2004 it became the archive room, filled with shelves. However, the marble high altar still exists and the Gothic-inspired frescoes are still visible, as is the paving.
