This photo is one of the outcomes of the project "January's Blue Mondays". For five Mondays in January 2023, I set the alarm clock very early to take photos of Rotterdam in the blue hour before sunrise. Whatever the weather, as it is called.
This second Blue Monday in the series is warm and rainy. Too warm anyway for the time of year and actually too rainy to take photos. Just try putting a camera on a tripod and setting it up and holding up an umbrella at the same time.
Then again, the nice thing about rain is that it makes the streets shine so beautifully. The streets, but also the quay, with concrete, stelcon plates and old railway tracks, of Leuvehaven harbour.
The cranes, the little lighthouse and the historic ships are part of the collection of the Maritime Museum, also in the photo.
But the residential and office buildings in the background also make the photo interesting; they bring colour and light to a somewhat dark environment. What is particularly striking are the many colours of light: from cold bluish to warm yellow and orange.
My work can be found in the border regions of photography, painting and computer visuals. With my company 3Develop I do work in commission but I use the same techniques, skills and software to make free work.
