In "A Strange Model Room," I created a scene with which I wanted to invite the viewer to imagine for themselves the story it might play out.
The story takes place in a bygone era in a musty motel room in which we see a young blonde woman in a red dress trying to protect her eyes with her hand from the bright light coming from the bathroom.
On the bed lies a suitcase and a child's doll. We also see a tricycle. The room is mainly lit by the television and a bright light coming from the bathroom.
Most of my works are characterized by the color red and the use of contrasts. These contrasts can be put down to light, color or subjects. In this work it involves all three as can be clearly seen.
My staged works are inspired particularly by the amazing Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf.
My work exists at the intersection of modern Pop Art and Expressionism, with influences from Modernism. Contrast, whether in light, color, or subject, plays a central role in my art. The color red is often prominently featured.
