This is a picture I took in a beautiful abandoned villa. The villa, built in the beginning of the 17th century, has a great terrace from where you have a panoramic view over the whole city. The location of the villa, strategically on top of a hill, was chosen by the owner in an attempt to escape the plague epidemic. At worst, almost a third of the city's inhabitants died in one year from this epidemic. The villa changed hands between some of the most influential and historic families. Each family has added something to the villa. As a result, different architectural styles have been combined in the villa.
Roman Robroek is a photographer who captures forgotten places around the world. In particular, he is focused on creating stunning pho-tos of abandoned locations, rich with wonder, mystery and unanswered questions.
