A watercolor drawing of a swift in flight. The bird is depicted with dynamic blotchy lines representing its speed and movement, thus translated on paper.
The colors of the sky blend into a purple-like hue.
The bird itself is rendered quite realistically.
The swift is built entirely to fly. The swift's wings are and longer than its body. This bird never comes to the ground, in fact only to breed on roofs of houses they look for a place to land. They even sleep in the sky and then just fly very high to slowly descend to normal height while sleeping during the night.
In the Netherlands, the swift arrives in late April early May after wintering in the south. It is truly the harbinger of summer.
You can then hear their screeching calls as they fly through the air like aerial acrobats hunting for flies and mosquitoes. A joy to watch.
At the end of July they migrate south again and really leave a great silence behind.
Creative centipede. Always busy coming up with beautiful, special and funny things.
