Flying over the meadows. That's what this Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) does. This one flew over the Reeuwijkse Plassen to a spot where it could fish. Because fish is what these birds eat like no other. It is also called Scholver, Scholverd, Schollevaar, Koolgans and Waterraaf. This is because of its almost black plumage. It often sits drying on a pole in the sun. Then you can see it sitting with its wings spread out. Its beak has a hook shape, so it can easily clip a fish between them. For me, this bird symbolises depression because it is coloured all black. You can sometimes get so badly tangled up with yourself or others that you think you can't get out. But there is always a way out of the situation. There is always room to find the way out of the tunnel. Even if you don't see an exit and are told there is no way out, look at this picture on the wall and remember that there is a way out.
