This striking, bright blue building surrounded by the most beautiful cacti sits within the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesh, Morroco.
The garden in which it sits was originally founded by the French artist Jaques Majorelle. The cubist villa was designed in the 1930s by Paul Sinoir, a French architect. During the 1980s the gardens and villa were purchased by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Berge who restored it before opening the villa and gardens to the pubic. This is a firm favorite destination on the Marrakesh tourist trail and a shady relief from the hot African sun I have to say.
It is many years ago now since I visited Marrakesh and took this image. I was stunned by the depth of the blue, contrasting with yellow, and how the sunlight changed the tones of the colors. The green and shape of the cactus plants break up the lines of the building in a pleasing way.
Born in the South of England I now live half way up a mountain in Umbria, Italy. I work from my art studio looking out over fabulous views of the Italian countryside. I am so happy to share my artwork with you.
An artist and blogger, I specialize in photo art and acrylic painting. For my photo art, I start with my own photographs and work on them digitally to capture the feeling I want to convey with the final image. For my abstract work, I literally 'go with the flow' and follow where my heart wants to take me as I work.
I create art to make your heart smile, capturing the spirit of place in towns and villages, or creating art to enhance the energy of your home or workplace. Take your time to look through my portfolio, I hope you enjoy it.
