Autumn colours
In autumn, plants and trees get ready for winter. In autumn, the days get shorter. The leaves get less and less energy from the sun. So they make less and less food. However, they continue to evaporate water. Because of the cold, the tree can no longer absorb water. If the leaves were left on the tree, the tree would dry out. The tree would then die. Therefore, the tree extracts the chlorophyll and other useful substances from the leaves. When the chlorophyll disappears from the leaves, you only see the red and yellow dyes of the leaves. This is how the beautiful autumn colours are created.
