About the artwork

The first AC Cobra arrived in October 1964 and was fitted with a 427-cubic-inch V8 engine by Carroll Shelby. Although the Mark III Cobra was initially designed with an American audience in mind, the company soon realized that it could sell the car in markets beyond its own backyard. The Mark III Cobra, which became popular among enthusiasts worldwide, was a huge success, and the company continued to produce the same model.

The Ford AC Cobra 427 was the first of a series of street examples. The original 427 Cobra was built with a four-inch steel tube chassis and was later upgraded with coil spring suspension. It was originally equipped with transverse leaf springs at the front. The front fender was wide, and the grill was larger. A powerful Ford 4-27-cubic-inch V8 was installed in the Cobra, with a single Holley carburetor and side-oiler. The car was capable of producing up to 620 horsepower, and was a favorite of racing aficionados.

In 1965, the AC Cobra 427 was unveiled to the public. The car had been made since 1954 and was a huge hit in the United States. During its production, more than one million Cobras were produced and sold around the world. The Ford AC Cobra was the most successful car of the decade. In fact, it was the most popular Ford model of the period. The Ford ACCobra was a massive success and the first model was delivered engine-less to Los Angeles airport in 1965. The following day, the vehicle roared to life.
