My "Grape Girl" is an addition to my popular series: Veggie Ladies (all women wear clothes and accessories created from fruits and vegetables = purely vegetarian). In Germany, you might immediately think of a wine queen, elsewhere rather of a wine goddess and some people will just think it is a very cool style of dress.
My motivation for creating this picture was quite different, namely that a good friend asked me to do it because he loves grape jam more than anything and he would like to embellish his breakfast nook with such a picture.
I, personally, associate it with quite different things: when I put the first vines over her shoulders, I thought of a short sleeveless cape or waistcoat and that Vivienne Westwood would surely have loved this kind of fashion. What I also love about this picture is its girlish character that takes me back a bit to the Twiggy era. Of course, this is all very subjective and the viewer should please enjoy his or her own associations with this picture. As always, the work was created in Photoshop. This time, however, I used a lot more of my painting tools. From a distance this is not noticeable. The work looks realistic as usual and of course deliberately surrealistic. Only in the close-up view you can see brush strokes.
Britta Glodde is a digital artist from Germany with Spanish residency and a self-confessed Aries. She has been drawing and painting since her father taught her - today she teaches herself: "I love trying new techniques. That's how I discovered the possibilities of digital art. I started with 3D rendering about 12 years ago, then I moved on to digital painting and for some time now I have been incorporating parts of photos into my works. My style may have changed over time, but my preferred subjects have not. I have a weakness for female beauty (faces and eyes mainly). I like to portray my fantasy ladies in a surreal context. My favourite series deals with women and food - which is not surprising when you know how passionate I am about feasting. Another passion of mine is imagining and writing fantasy worlds/stories. In other words: I think nothing is impossible - I believe in fairy tales - and I can discover magic everywhere. So if I can bring a little magic to your walls, I am very happy."
