Digital Composite/Hypercollage Photography.
The work is called "Ikaro" and the two parrots sitting in the tree look out over a still misty and mysterious landscape at sunrise. I imagine they have just awakened and are getting ready for the day. Are they the guardians of this piece of land, flying around to keep order? I hope that my works speak to the imagination of the viewer and who gives them a story of their own.
With my work, I strive to give the viewer not only a beautiful image, but also to seek connection between the viewer's emotion and the flora and fauna depicted.
I see the parallels between nature providing benefits to our health and well-being, as well as natural environments that need our help to heal.
The word "ikaro" is used by South American indigenous tribes to describe medicine songs performed by shamans to induce a state of healing, awareness or amazement. I see the parallels between nature providing benefits to our health and well-being, as well as natural environments needing our help to heal.
"I consider the creativity in the evolution of flora and fauna as something almost magical. The ingenuity of many life forms is something that is often overlooked by many. This sense of wonder is what I want to show in my work and celebrate nature's diversity by enhancing its mystical qualities."
Jesper Krijgsman's supernatural landscapes are places where biology and dreams merge. His work represents both daydreams of the artist and the intelligence and magic that nature possesses. He hopes his vision contributes to the realization that the natural world is full of wonders and we should treat it with more love.
His process involves photography and image editing. He photographs each flower or plants individually and while editing it, he often discovers new details in shapes, colors, and textures. These photographed natural elements are then digitally assembled to create detailed worlds that depict scenes in which the mystical qualities of the natural world are magnified. Photographing, editing, and, above all, learning everything himself about the subjects he photographs has strengthened his connection with the natural world.
Jesper Krijgsman was born in Amsterdam in 1992 and lived in Switzerland for 12 years, where he worked as a graphic designer and artist. He was named a Top Talent by Adobe in 2019 and his work hangs in multiple galleries around the world.
