The sun is up and trying to dispel the fog in the forests surrounding the Hatertse vennen. It is quiet in the forest but now and then you encounter a walker. The fog makes the world just a little bit smaller and gives an intimate atmosphere to this image. This nature reserve near Nijmegen is a popular place to photograph the sunrise. At the end of summer, the heather begins to bloom purple, giving the landscape a beautiful glow.Hatertse en Overasseltse Vennen is a fens area of about 520 hectares in the municipalities of Heumen and Wijchen, Gelderland province. The area consists of about twenty named fens and the surrounding river dune, heathland and forest area. The area lies southwest of Nijmegen. Once this area, southwest of Nijmegen, was created by the Waal and the Maas. Both rivers are now some distance away, but because of the river clay they left behind you can now enjoy the more than 20 fens.
