In our garden a beautiful Japanese iris blooms every year. The flowers are beautiful, huge (sometimes up to 20 cm across) and have various shades of purple. The flower has a small yellow heart. At the height of the bloom (1 June 2021) I photographed the irises from all sides, in the early morning sun. From all the pictures I selected the best one. Then began painting the background, for weeks, pixel by pixel, around the irises, stems and green leaves. The result is that the irises are now shining in their full glory, without any disturbing factors. A fun fact: this plant does very well at the edge of a pond, but we do not have a pond. The plant is in the vegetable garden. The soil in Chaugey, FR, is quite rocky and therefore perhaps quite humid.

Since about 1974, I have been involved almost daily in photography, drawing (charcoal, graphite, conté, chalk, ink), painting, watercolour and/or collage making. In all these branches of visual work, I have tried a lot, found my own way, but also often had lessons from various professionals. In everything I make, I pay particular attention to form and colour, composition, shadow and light. Sometimes this makes the image very minimalistic, other times it is enormously rich. They are almost always small settings that tell a story. My approach in my work is: back to basics, the place of peace and quiet from which things grow and appear in daylight.
