The color of a kingfisher is created by refraction of light on the feathers, at different angles of light this color can change from blue to turquoise and when the sun is low behind the observer, the green seems to splash off. This male is sitting in the light of a low winter sun, his tail just falling into the shadows so he shows this effect, called the Tyndall effect, beautifully.
For over 20 years I have been enchanted by the beauty and lifestyle of these wonderful birds. My passion is to capture these wonders of nature in the most beautiful and natural way possible.
