I was surprised at just how picturesque Madeira was when I visited about 15 years ago. I had expected to spend a lot of time by the sea, but actually the landscapes were beautiful and I spent a lot of time visiting the various botanical gardens. The climate lends itself to some inventive planting as you can see here!
This scene is from one of two oriental garden areas at the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens in Madeira, Portugal. Red handrails and pagodas, reminiscent of Japanese style, can be found throughout these areas and the red structures are very striking against the rich planting.
The gardens belong to a beautiful palace that once was a famous hotel in the 18th Century. But, the Palace is now a museum and the gardens open to the public. The garden itself is large and on multi-levels with exotic trees, flowers and ponds all linked with pathways. Every little turn down a path reveals another beautiful vista.
Born in the South of England I now live half way up a mountain in Umbria, Italy. I work from my art studio looking out over fabulous views of the Italian countryside. I am so happy to share my artwork with you.
An artist and blogger, I specialize in photo art and acrylic painting. For my photo art, I start with my own photographs and work on them digitally to capture the feeling I want to convey with the final image. For my abstract work, I literally 'go with the flow' and follow where my heart wants to take me as I work.
I create art to make your heart smile, capturing the spirit of place in towns and villages, or creating art to enhance the energy of your home or workplace. Take your time to look through my portfolio, I hope you enjoy it.
