Dorothy Berry-Lound Profile picture This is the old Palm House (Palmehus) at the Botanical Garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. This is the most notable of 27 glasshouses on the 10 hectare site dating from 1874. The Palm House is 16 m tall and has a narrow, cast-iron spiral staircase leading to a passageway at the top. It contains a palm from 1824. The Palm House dominates the view of the garden and is reflected in the ornamental lake as you can see here.

The main benefactor for the creation of the garden was the Carlsberg founder J C Jacobsen who is said to have got his inspiration for the glasshouses from the famous glass building that was erected at Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition in London in 1851.

The Botanical Garden (Botanisk Have) was first established in 1600 but it was moved twice before it was ultimately given its current location in 1870. The garden is part of the National History Museum of Denmark which is itself part of the University of Copenhagen Faculty of Science and its purpose is research, educational and recreational.

This artwork is offered by Dorothy Berry-Lound

Born in the South of England I now live half way up a mountain in Umbria, Italy. I work from my art studio looking out over fabulous views of the Italian countryside. I am so happy to share my artwork with you.

An artist and blogger, I specialize in photo art and acrylic painting. For my photo art, I start with my own photographs and work on them digitally to capture the feeling I want to convey with the final image. For my abstract work, I literally 'go with the flow' and follow where my heart wants to take me as I work.

I create art to make your heart smile, capturing the spirit of place in towns and villages, or creating art to enhance the energy of your home or workplace. Take your time to look through my portfolio, I hope you enjoy it.
