My interpretation of classical paintings. I have a passion for antiquity and I am very nostalgic. That's why I like to work from my love for painting. I give them a contemporary look and embrace the classical style.
Original by Anthony van Dyck. On display is Agostino Pallavicini, a member of the Pallavicini family and the future doge of Genoa, wrapped in the lush, wavy red robes he wears in his role as ambassador to the Pope. The sprawling fabric, spectacularly rendered, seems to lead a life of its own and almost threatens to take over the painting. The luxurious swirl of fabric shows Anthony van Dyck's virtuosity as a painter. In 1621 Van Dyck left Antwerp and travelled to Italy. This was one of the first paintings he made in Italy, painted in 1621 to commemorate the babysitter's service as ambassador to the newly elected Pope Gregory XV.
Illustrator and specialist painter
I work very realistically and get inspiration from the everyday for my work. I combine a touch of fantasy with observation. Because of my painting background I have a love for imitation and precision. I start from my own perspective and I find it important to incorporate my interests in my illustrations. Not afraid to get my hands dirty, and a neat worker!
