MadameRuiz Profile picture Portrait of an African woman in watercolor. A combative portrait. A struggle reinforced by the diagonal lines of her clothing and front left. A proud woman, looking back on what was.

This portrait was painted with east Indian ink on watercolor paper and then transformed into a digital artwork through Photoshop.

For years I have been working with east indian ink on watercolor paper. I find it a wonderful material and a wonderful medium for art. The power of the ink and the softness of the wash and of the paper. I love that combination. It also brought me fame through the television program VTWonen Weer verliefd op je huis and various magazines such as VTWonen and KekMama.

In Photoshop, the technique of East Indian ink on watercolor paper has been given an extra dimension with soft shades of brown, taupe, and even very light, a kind of grayish eggplant, and old pink. In the background, the beautiful texture of the paper comes through, keeping the whole very authentic. Old media and new media go hand in hand here.

I am incredibly happy with how this portrait turned out digitally. For years I searched for how best to digitize my work. Not only have I now digitized the work (again), but it has become much more exciting and intense than the original was. So I am completely happy! :)

I am MadameRuiz, and am an artist by profession. I hope to delight you with my work. Here in my profile, or on your wall :) Both are fun!

Will you let me know what you think of my work? I would love to get in touch with you. Also when you have one of my works in your home I am very curious about the end result in your interior.

I love everything that has to do with art, culture and creativity. Experiencing, creating, teaching and communicating. Through language, image, non-verbal and through the musical voice.

I became known for my commissioned ink portraits. My work was first shown to a large audience in the program VTWonen Weer verliefd op je huis (February 2021). I make many ink portraits of and for individuals; from pregnancy portraits, wedding portraits, child portraits, love portraits and family portraits to portraits of pets such as dogs, cats, horses and birds. These ink portraits are all handmade by the way, drawn and painted with east indian ink on watercolor paper.

In my shop at work on the wall you can order my Digital Art. Because I normally work almost exclusively on commission, my autonomous art via Digital Art is really a wonderful experimental outlet. This also means that I keep experimenting with painting techniques and collage techniques using Photoshop. Although I love to experiment, quality comes first
