Tawny owls often have a favorite "roost tree" or group of trees, a permanent spot where the they rest. They are usually hidden places, such as dense firs or tree cavities. During the day, they hatch there. At night they fly out to hunt. With a full stomach they return to their roost. Under such a place you can often find pellets, with which the owls get rid of indigestible prey remains such as bones and hair.
