The Sint Servaas Bridge, called Maasbrug until 1932 and popularly old bridge (Maastricht: aw brögk), is an originally 13th-century stone arch bridge over the river Maas in the Dutch city of Maastricht. The bridge is named after the 4th-century bishop of Maastricht, Saint Servaas, but did not receive its current name until 1932; before that it was simply "the bridge," officially Maasbrug. The Sint Servaas Bridge is considered the oldest bridge in the Netherlands and an icon of the city of Maastricht. The structure is a national monument.
Maastricht is where the roots of my ancestors lie. I love to come here to photograph, to paint and to experience the joye de vivre just walking around. Maastricht flows through my veins like Mother Maas through the Limburg capital. The Saint Servatius bridge remains a grateful and dear subject within my extensive Maastricht oeuvre.
