In the middle of the image, a small jellyfish lies as a disturbance to the flowing sea. Above her, waves form as the sea tries to pass it and over it. The white in the center of the jellyfish is bordered by a brown "dotted line. This brown coloration at the edge indicates that it is probably a compass jellyfish. Normally, a compass jellyfish has brown stripes on its cap, in a v-shape: they run from the center to the edge. In my specimen, this cannot be seen, perhaps because she landed on the beach and is not swimming nicely in the sea.
The jellyfish is surrounded by some nice shells. Together with the sea waves, they make a balanced, soothing composition. To the right of the jellyfish, three shells are moving with the current; at the bottom left, a somewhat larger shell is resisting: the sea is "crashing" against it. The other shells lie, sometimes half covered by the beach sand, as a litter around it.
I took the photo in Zeeland, near Dishoek. I can look endlessly at this image, as a photograph and in person. As a native of Zandvoort, the sea remains a huge attraction for me, in all seasons.
To make the flow of the sea more prominent in the image, I digitally edited the photo.
With this image you definitely bring the beach into your home!
Since about 1974, I have been involved almost daily in photography, drawing (charcoal, graphite, conté, chalk, ink), painting, watercolour and/or collage making. In all these branches of visual work, I have tried a lot, found my own way, but also often had lessons from various professionals. In everything I make, I pay particular attention to form and colour, composition, shadow and light. Sometimes this makes the image very minimalistic, other times it is enormously rich. They are almost always small settings that tell a story. My approach in my work is: back to basics, the place of peace and quiet from which things grow and appear in daylight. I have been exhibiting occasionally since 1990. Would you like to know more about me? Then click on one of the green buttons below.
