The robin (Erithacus rubecula) is a songbird. It ventures close to houses, especially in winter. Robins tend to be very curious and trusting. Against conspecifics, on the other hand, both male and female are very aggressive and they fiercely defend their territory in summer and winter. They show the red breast feathers in the process. Usually robins make their nests well hidden on the ground. The young do not have a red breast yet. In winter, some robins migrate to warmer areas in Europe where there is more food. Also birds from northern/northeastern regions migrate south and end up in the Netherlands.
