This photo was taken during one of the Blue Mondays of January 2023. In that month, I set the alarm clock very early five times, to take photos of Rotterdam in the blue hour before sunrise.
To be precise, the photo was taken on the fifth Monday, 30 January, at 7.41am. Almost three quarters of an hour before the sun rises above the horizon, but it is already starting to get light. This also has to do with the fact that there are no clouds in the sky; this blue is the harbinger of a sunny morning in an otherwise somewhat drizzly month.
Here we are on the Holland America Quay on Wilhelmina Pier, looking out over the river Nieuwe Maas. On the other side, we can see the Zalmhaven Tower, the tallest building in the Benelux, towering above some lower structures.
Along the quay, we also see the Waterbus stop and the Spido tour boats. And to the right, just a bit of Rotterdam's iconic Erasmus Bridge is visible.
My work can be found in the border regions of photography, painting and computer visuals. With my company 3Develop I do work in commission but I use the same techniques, skills and software to make free work.
